Terms
Last updated October 24, 2026
Version for the application phase and the closed beta. As of 24 October 2026.
1. Provider and scope
offcuts.work is run by me, Marcel Küpper. My full details are in the imprint.
These terms apply to your application for a spot in the closed beta and, if you are invited, to your use of offcuts.work during the beta. You accept them when you send the application form and when you accept the invitation. Terms of your own do not apply.
How I handle your data is described in the privacy notice.
2. Beta status
offcuts.work is in a closed beta phase. That means:
- The platform is not finished. Features may change, fail or disappear. There is no guaranteed availability and no entitlement to particular features.
- Taking part is free. There is no entitlement to take part or to a continuation of the beta.
- Bigger rebuilds may require deleting or resetting content or accounts. I announce that by e-mail where I can. Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you.
- I may end the beta at any time. I announce that too, by e-mail and with reasonable notice.
3. Application and invitation
You apply through the form on the home page. You then receive an e-mail with a confirmation link; your application is in only once you click it.
Spots are limited. I read every application and choose whom to invite based on your answers. There is no entitlement to an invitation, and I cannot give reasons for a refusal.
Give accurate details and use your own e-mail address. Agreeing to give feedback through the feedback form is a condition of taking part. A video call is optional.
The invitation comes by e-mail with an invite code. It is personal and not transferable. You can withdraw your application at any time by e-mail; the address is in the imprint.
4. Account
An account exists only once you follow the invitation. You sign in with a link I send you by e-mail; there is no password. Protect access to your mailbox accordingly.
You must be at least 18 years old.
One account per person. Your handle and profile must not mislead about your identity or infringe the rights of others.
You can delete your account at any time in the account settings. I then remove your profile, your builds, photos, comments and likes. Your handle stays reserved for 30 days so nobody can take it over straight away.
5. Scrapmatch, photos and content
Scrapmatch detects the materials in a photo of your off-cuts and suggests projects. An AI service does the analysis. Which one, and what happens to the photo, I will add to the privacy notice before the beta starts; you receive the new version with the invitation. If you do not agree with it, you can decline the invitation and withdraw from the beta.
For everything you upload or write:
- Only upload photos you took yourself or hold the necessary rights to.
- No identifiable people. No content that infringes the rights of others, such as trademarks, copyrights or personal rights.
- Nothing unlawful, nothing abusive, no advertising.
Photos used for material detection are deleted no later than 90 days after upload. Photos in your builds stay as long as the build exists.
So that I can show your content at all, you grant me a simple, royalty-free right to store it on offcuts.work, adapt it technically (for example resize it), display it to participants and use it in project suggestions. The right ends when you delete the content or your account; it may linger briefly in backups only. For advertising or any use outside the platform I use your content only with your consent. I do not use it to train AI models.
Published builds and profiles are visible to everyone who can reach the platform.
6. Project ideas and safety
Project ideas are suggestions, and most of them are generated automatically. I give no warranty that they are correct, complete, feasible or safe. Material detection can be wrong too.
What you build, you build at your own risk. You decide whether material, tools and your skills are up to a project, and you take care of protective equipment, safe working practice and applicable rules, for example for electrics, load-bearing parts or food contact. When in doubt, ask a professional.
7. Conduct in the community
Treat others with respect. No insults, threats or harassment, no discrimination, no spam, no passing off other people's content as your own.
You can report builds, comments and profiles. I may hide or remove content and suspend or delete accounts where someone violates these terms or the law. If I suspend you, I inform you by e-mail where that is reasonable, and you can reply.
8. Feedback
The beta lives on your feedback. Whatever you send me through the feedback form, by e-mail or in a call I may use freely to develop offcuts.work, without payment or attribution. So do not send me anything that has to stay confidential.
9. Liability
I am liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, for damage from injury to life, body or health, and under the Product Liability Act.
For slight negligence I am liable only where an obligation is breached whose fulfilment makes use of the platform possible in the first place and on whose observance you may rely. In that case liability is limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Any further liability is excluded; the beta is free of charge.
For damage arising from carrying out project ideas, section 6 applies.
10. Changes to these terms
I may change these terms, for example when new features arrive or the law changes. I inform you of changes by e-mail. For material changes I ask for your renewed consent at your next sign-in; if you do not consent, you can delete your account.
11. Final provisions
German law applies. If you are a consumer living in another country, the mandatory protective provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected.
I am neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Should a provision of these terms be invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force.
The German version prevails; the English version is provided for readability.
