The story
Every workshop has one: the box of off-cuts. A piece of oak too good for the stove. Leather from the last project. An offcut of plywood, a metre of tube, a few tiles. Too good to throw away, too small for the plan. So it sits there until it ends up in the bin after all.
offcuts.work grew out of exactly that box. The idea: a photo of what is left, and with a little help from AI it turns into project ideas you can build today. The first tool for that is called Scrapmatch. It detects the materials in your photo, matches them to your tools and skills, and ranks project ideas accordingly.
There is more to it than a tool. offcuts.work is meant to become a place where makers show what their off-cuts turned into, pass on ideas and learn from each other. Waste less, build more, together.
Right now the closed beta is running: a limited number of makers try Scrapmatch and tell me what works and what is missing. You can apply on the home page.
Who is behind it
offcuts.work is built by me, Marcel Küpper: a maker from Germany with an off-cuts box of my own. By day I work in software development. This project brings those two parts of my life together. I develop the platform step by step and read every application and every piece of feedback myself.
